NSF — The Founding Trustee
Neuro Sciences Foundation is headed by Professor Dr. Shakil Jehangir Malik. Driven by an early fascination with the myriad mysteries of the brain and a deep commitment to human dignity, Dr. Malik established NSF Pakistan when psychiatric care in Pakistan was marred by stigma and inhumane practices.
With 43 years of clinical and academic experience and postgraduate qualifications from Pakistan, the UK, Ireland, and Canada, Dr. Malik has dedicated his life to advocating for and transforming mental health services. He has the unique honour of holding Emeritus Consultant status with the National Health Service UK and Professorship at University of Sussex.
Dr. Malik’s passion for neuro-psychiatry and community development has redefined care for the under severed and neglected mentally ill patients and has enabled uplifting entire communities through sustainable, people – centred initiatives.
Our Impact and Success Stories
At NSF Pakistan, our impact is measurable with significant numbers.30,000+ patients with serious mental health conditions receive free psychiatric care every year at our clinics, strengthening Pakistan’s capacity to address mental health challenges.
Since the establishment of our first neuro-psychiatric clinic in Mohra Fatima (1998), over 200,000 serious mentally ill patients have received free consultant care along with medicines. In addition our rural community development model has revitalised the surrounding villages with infra structural development improving health, sanitation, and education. Along with rural neuro psychiatry services at Mohra Fatima we led disaster relief training for first responders in 2005 earthquake along with team from uk and again trained doctors and nurses after the flood disasters in 2010 -2011. We also supported management of the APS Peshawar tragedy in 2014
